Zee Bognor Hilly
16th October 2011
Last event of the time trial calender saw both myself and Phil competing in this hilly race, shortened this year to 18 miles due to roadworks it looked it if was going to be easier, but no it still kept in the 3 big climbs. I finished in a just ok 20th place out of 50 with 51:25, whilst Phil finished 10th in 48:57. Of course I'm not going to mention how much better he could have done if he'd hadn't taken a wrong turn!
No more TTs now until next year.

Chippenham Wheelers 2011
9th October 2011
Myself, Trev & John Glaysher teamed up for this team time trial, having never ridden competitively together before it was going to be interesting to see how we would get on.
We knew from previous years that it was a tough course, but this year a stretch of road had the top layer of tarmac taken off leaving a very rough "roubaix" style section, also to make it even tougher there was a very strong head-wind on large part of the course to contend with.
Fortunately we rode very well together and managed to stay free of punctures finishing in a time of 1:00:01 in 3rd place, really chuffed as we beat a lot of good teams in very tough conditions.
Unfortunately luck wasn't on the side of Darryls team (Rob & John) as Darryl punctured leaving Rob & John to ride together as a 2up finishing about 11 secfonds behind us.
Now what shall I do with my substantial winnings?

Stockbridge Road Race
Phil finished in the top 15 of this "National B" E,1,2,3 road race, a strong field on this tough course made for some hard racing. The race was won by Ben Stockdale and most of the finishers above Phil were elites.

Duo Normand 2011
18th September 2011
Myself and Andy Lovell teamed up for this event, with our recent ride together at a Team Axiom event in the pouring rain it was typical that this years Duo would be a wash-out. Torrential rain and strong winds made it very tough and demanding, we finished in one piece in 9th place with our team mates Darryl and John in 4th place. Rob & Darren won the Coporatifs event.

Bournemouth
19th August 2011
Gilly and I spent the Friday and Saturday down at Bournemouth watching the airshow and exploring. Stayed at the Chine Hotel at Boscombe which was good. Spent Saturday cycling down to Sandbanks, catching the ferry over to Studland, lunch at Studland Bay and cycling back to Boscombe. Nice weekend, although marred by the sad news when we got home that one of the Red Arrows had crashed. A real shame as we had spent hours watching them perform their amazing feats. R.I.P

Farnham 4-up Team Time Trial
7th August 2011
This annual 25 mile team time trial on the Bentley By-Pass is usually an interesting event and this year was no exception. Myself, Andy Lovell, James Chapman & Matt Cheyney were put together by our team boss to produce a blend of youth and experience! Just before we set off, Matt commented "last time I did a TTT I clipped the guy in fronts wheel and ended up in ditch", which filled us all with confidence. We set off and and it became apparent that Matt was not comfortable with riding in close formation and it soon became ragged. Convinced that he had a puncture Matt peeled off and left the 3 of us to carry on, we did for awhile only to find Matt was back and we then carried on as a team of 4. Unfortunately this didn't last for too long as James clipped Matts rear wheel, went off in the verge and miraculously stayed on his bike, we re-grouped and finished minus Matt in a time of 57:31 in 6th place.
Phil however riding with Seb, Graeme and Tom rode very well together, although Tom Chapman only managed to hang on for 10 miles. The guys recorded a very fast 52:06 to finish in 2nd place about a minute behind the VC St. Raphael team.

Race 4 Life
Gilly, Alison and Clare raised a lot of money for cancer research, Gilly who was injured at the time walked and jogged round in this popular event.
Cycling
Phil started off in this 2nd/3rd cat race between Dorking and Box Hill extremely well, getting into a break with 2 other riders for most of the race, unfortunately the course was fairly flat and they were caught with just over a lap to go. Pushing to the extreme Phils "lucky" tag he got caught up in trouble on the home straight with a rider being pushed into his side, luckily Phil managed to stay on his bike but the damage to his bike was extreme with a cracked carbon frame and a damaged rear wheel! Fortunately Cannondale have been amazingly good and taken the old one back and replaced it with an even better one!

National Team Time Trial
Our club ...a3crg organised this National event and Phil lined up with Seb Ader & Graeme Stirzaker while I teamed up with Trevor & Andy Lovell. My team rode very smoothly and finished in 14th place in 1:29:05, whilst not super fast still placed in front of rivals Team Axiom and our on paper better team of Paddy and all.
Phil's team meanwhile finished in 7th place in 1:21:25, Phil struggled a bit with his asthma and the team would have probably moved up a couple of places if he'd been on top form, even so still a very good performance.
In all though some good performances on a very tough hilly course.

Still June
June 2011
Went to Emma's daughters christening, Evelyn looked angelic in a picture postcard setting in Puncknowle in Dorset.
Also we went to see Take That at Wembley stadium, supported by Pet Shop Boys who were loaned with a few dancers, couple of speakers and a few lights. Take That however put on a dazzling show with Robbie Williams in top form.
Flaming June
June 2011
Mixed bag of racing in this month saw myself pull out the South Region support race (I don't do quitting but this particular chesty cough had me really struggling on the hills, which was a shame as the race wasn't particularly pacey) on the plus side this race was won by Pete Bolke! Phil had some bad luck (Championship Race) with his chain unshipping and getting jammed in the frame, by the time he got it sorted it was game over and he wasn't able to take a lap out. Thinking of starting calling Phil "lucky"!
Next up for "lucky" was a Surrey League race in Seale which started off well with Phil getting in a few breaks, the rain was getting heavy and the longer this went on it was enevitable that a few crashes would occur, unfortunately Phil got taken out twice and although unscathed both times the chasing back took its toll and this combined with rubbing brakes meant that "lucky" had to pull out with 3 laps to go.
On a positive note, he did manage an impressive 3rd place behind his team mate Mike Cotty and winner Stuart Bowers in the Sotonia Heath race!

Kent 3up
Sunday 13th March 2011
Myself, Rob and John set off down to Kent for this 25 mile team time trial, only as the event grew nearer did I realise what I had let myself in for. Turns out it was New Romney in deepest Kent and to make our 8:30 ish start we had to leave at 5:00 in the morning, with myself up at 4:15. Confidence was high as we were all feeling fairly fit, unfortunately we got very carried away at the start with the pace much too high, one of us was going to pay and wasn't long before I found myself struggling with the pace. Spent the remaining 20 miles hanging in and limiting the amount of turns I did on the front, finished in 6th place in 57:33.
Extremely gutted as we had the potential to be on the podium.

a3crg hardriders 10
26th February 2011
First timetrail of the season was always going to be at the mercy of the weather and today was no different. Phil was riding for us as Cannondale had not affiliated with the CTT, myself and Phil rode to the HQ and the heavens opened and we got soaked. We dryed off a bit and and made our way to the start of the testing 10 mile time trial, I set off and guess what? It poured down! The return leg back up the old a3 was particularly painful and I finished in 12th place in 26:53. Phil started a bit later, also got wet and finished in an amazing 4th place in 24:53 behind Nick Bowdler and Phill Sykes, but in front of the very experienced testers of Simon Berogna & Patrick Brennan. Our team a3crg won the team prize and Phil came away with £25 prize money.
