Myself, Darryl and Rob had entered this event again to defend our 1st Vets Team from last year. The omens were good as I got the start sheet through, we were off at 10:00 am, on the 10/10/10, Darryl had also planned to pick me up at 10 to 7.
Alas, Rob's wife was ill the night before and myself and darryl drove down in convoy with the 'B' team consisting of Trev, John H & Gary, DCB was in convoy as well to look after Gary's kids and to support the teams.
A fine but windy day saw myself and Darryl post a respectable time of 59:52 (even with a bottle stop!) with the 'B' team clinching 2nd place with a 58:55, the first Vets team only managed a 1:01 and the title would surely have been ours except for a missing man.

Tom passed his driving test today, what a star! Any car suggestions?
September 2010
Myself and Tom ran this today, usual pain and suffering for this bitch of a run. Tom did amazing well and finished 3rd, beating some top local runners. My success? well I beat Simon who pipped me on the line 2 years ago, lost count of how many times "never again" went through my mind.

19th September 2010
A3crg arrived in numbers for the weekend to compete in the Duo Normand 2010, this was the 10th year the club had been coming here and we had 11 teams competing in the 2up time trial. Myself and Trevor paired up for the 3rd category and finished in 1:24:14 earning 16th place in this tough group. Darryl and John finished about 3 mins faster than us in the vets competition and Gary & Rob about a minute slower, again in the vets. Graham & Jez won the 3rd Cats, with our other teams having mixed results. 2 of our teams ended up in the ditch and luckily escaped with a few scratches.
Great weekend.

21st-23rd August 2010
We all trundled down to Wool to support Phil in the Tour of Dorset, which should be renamed the Dorset Paddle. Rain, rain and more rain until the last stage on Monday finished and then out came the sun! An eventful tour saw Phil have an excellent time trial stage where he finished high up the order, even though he was on his roadbike (broken cable on TT bike). The road stage later on that day started well, but soon ruined when a crash held up Phil and his team mate James, they later finished 15 minutes down.
Day 2 was the hilly stage, in appalling conditions. Phil finished 11th, with his team mate Sam taking 1st place and the yellow jersey.
Day 3 started off in the rain, with showers throughout the race. Team Cannondales mission was to protect their team leader in the yellow jersey, they all worked really hard and it paid off with Sam securing the overall victory. And in true Armstrong style shared his winnings with his team-mates. Phil worked really hard today and with some luck on his side who knows what might have happened. Full results here...

Myself, Trevor, Gary Gunner & Graham Fielden all lined up for the 4-up Team Trial at Bentley, it started badly with firstly a gap forming at the start with Graham lagging, he then caught up and pulled a massive turn. Gary was not feeling good to start with, wouldn't go or couldn't go through and was ready to pack it in. Trevor had a word and we all got back together, this went well for a couple of miles, but I could already see that Graham was struggling.
After 5 or 6 miles we encountered a group of Gypsies who were racing their horse and carts, unbelievably the horse fell over in the middle of a dual carriageway and we had to slow right down, luckily they got the horse back up and were on their way pretty quickly. In the meantime we were able to weave slowly through the carnage and regroup albeit minus Graham. The three of us got into a very good rythym and were really motoring, Trev started to struggle a wee bit towards the end but we managed to finish in a 56:30, which considering all the interuptions wasn't too bad. Only finished 30 secs behind the "B" team with our "A" team taking the win. More pics here...

Tom was asked to run for Chichester Athletics at this regional part of a National Event, running in the 3000 metres, he finished a very respectable 3rd place in 10:37, faded a bit towards the end but it was a very hot day. His name had also been put down for the 1500m which he entered but the toll of the 3k had taken its toll and he trailed in at the back of the field in a 4:38 .

With a crash ending in Phil's chances for this years Welsh Ras, the injured knee is healing nicely and he is now getting back to form. With DHC Racing no longer existing he has joined up with Cannondale Racing who have given him a top of the range Super Six plus new kit, top bunch of guys including some of his DHC team mates plus James & Mike Cotty.

20th June 2010
A fathers day treat today! Up at 4:45am and racing in a 50 mile TT at 6:40am. Really tough windy day and managed to finish in 2 hours and 3 minutes, lots of non-finishers due to the conditions and poor Darryl had to abandon with cramp and was rescued by St.John's Ambulance! Michael Hutchinson won in an incredible 1 hour 36 minutes!!

Luckily we were able to stay for this very special day, unfortunately there were a few people who hadn't been able to make it. A celebrity style wedding with an outdoor ceremony, superb dinner, indoor disco with fun casinos, magicians, balloon makers, chocolate fountain and so much more. Ben sang the opening song which was brilliant. Jodie looked amazing and the whole day was very special.

Due to the Volcano and the re-arrangement of the wedding meant we stayed on till the Tuesday. Scottsdale was mostly very warm, with a couple of mild days. Lots of chilling out by the pool and shopping in Fashion Square and Old Town Scottsdale. Loads of excellent restaurants, highlight for food was the Cheesecake Factory, gorgeous. Went with Jodie and Chris to watch the Phoenix Suns play Basket Ball which was very good fun.
Met Brock at Bike Haus who organised a bike for Phil to ride and I hired a Trek from Bike Barn, we joined them early morning on a group ride to the mountains which was brilliant, probably 25 riders in total.

Drove to Flagstaff from Vegas, stopped at the Hoover Dam which was very impressive. As we got closer to Flagstaff, which was very high up, couldn't help noticing the piles of snow at the side of the road! Luckily it was warm and sunny. Stayed at the Aspen Hotel, myself and Phil hired mountain bikes and went riding through Buffalo Park to the top of a mountain, this took 1.5 hours to reach the top, trails were extremely good, dry and technical at times.
Drove to the Grand Canyon and spent the most of the day there, simply breathtaking, a very hot day meant the views were staggering!!
Checked out on the 19th and set-off for Phoenix, drove the scenic route through Sedona which was also very beautiful.

Stayed at the Excalibur Hotel on the Southern part of The Strip, wonderful place which really came alive at night. Caesars Palace, The Venetian, MGM Grand (lions), The Bellagio (fountains to music) and the Paris all stood out as very glamorous hotels/shopping malls.

Stayed at the Venice Beach Hotel which was right on the beach, the landlord Greg made us very welcome. Excellent location with the street markets of Venice Beach and the swish Santa Monica. Visited Hollywood and strolled the "walk of fame".
Don't ask Phil about the fainting episode after going out for a run....

Both of todays races were promoted by our team ...a3crg. Phil raced in the afternoon in the 1st/2nd & 3rd Cat. race over 70 miles and up Milland Hill ten times! The bunch split early on which left 12 riders in front with Phil in this group, a hard pace was set and Phil managed an excellent 7th behind the winner Richard Symmonds. I had the job of driving the commissaire at the back of the peloton, which was a touch dull.

After a few early season road races which didn't go according to plan, todays race saw Phil get away in an early break of 6 riders including his team mate Andy. They held off the bunch with Philip grabbing 5th place while his team mate Andy won. Great result for DHC who had 3 other riders in the main bunch, the team looked very professional in full matching kit and glasses.

Myself and Trevor teamed up for this hilly team time trial and finished a respectable 4th.
Legs felt good today with Trev hanging in towards the end, tough course but we were both happy with our first race of the season.

Barney decided to go for a swim today in his favourite stretch of the Rother, unfortunately he got caught up in some and brambles and started to get into real difficulties, quickly losing strength and starting to go under.
Phil, very bravely, stripped down to his jeans and waded into the freezing cold water and rescued Barney.
Hats off to Phil, well done!!
While we were deep in snow and ice, Phil was sunning himself in Lanzarote for 3 weeks on a cycle training camp with 4 cycle buddies.
